CLASS - WINTER 2012:
Along with teaching Theater Master Class and workshops around the county, Stephen currently heads the Theater Dance division at Ballet Arts Studios (130 W. 56th between 6 & 7 Ave, NYC) in the historic City Center Theater building.
Ballet Arts Studios offers superior dance and vocal instruction with an emphasis on core classical ballet training. Theatre dance class offers a wonderful opportunity to break free of classical constraints and work on character-based performance technique. Classes are open level. Stephen's Theatre Dance series offers a working professional's approach to the rich world of theatre dance and presents an excellent opportunity to prepare for professional Broadway-level auditions. Broadway choreography by such artists as
Robbins, DeMille, Fosse, Lynne, Stroman, Marshall, Nicolaw, and Ashford is taught with a focus on the impact their work has had on the American theatre. Recent classes have included choreography from current Broadway productions of American Idiot, Spamalot, Billy Elliot, In The Heights, Wicked, All Shook Up, Cry Baby, Hairspray, Mama Mia, The Wedding Singer, Lion King, and Mary Poppins - along with classic American musicals like Pajama Game, Chicago, Damn Yankees!, Annie!, West Side Story, and South Pacific. It's true, sometime you'll have to sing AND dance in this class, but hey, it's "Musical" Theatre Dance - and it's fun! Beginners will be extremely challenged - but are welcome at all times!
Advanced / Intermediate Theatre Dance:
Tuesday, 5:30pm - 7:00pm, Ballet Arts Studios
Thursday, 5:30pm - 7:00pm, Ballet Arts Studios
Recent classes have featured choreography from Billy Elliot, Catch Me If You Can, Addams Family, Wicked, Mary Poppins, American Idiot, Fosse!, How To Succeed..., Spamalot, High Button Shoes, Oklahoma! and Pippin. Combined level class is open to all.
