Stephen Reed
has appeared on Broadway in six different
musicals including Once Upon A Mattress
with Sarah Jessica Parker, How to Succeed in
Business... with Matthew Broderick, Crazy
For You, Jerome Robbins’ Broadway,
110 in the Shade, and CATS - twice
(once starring as the wild rock-n- roller
Rum-Tug-Tugger). He's traveled across America,
Europe, and Japan in Tony award-winning
productions of Ragtime, Crazy For You, 42nd
Street, A Chorus Line, Evita, Annie Get Your
Gun, and Kiss Me Kate. He has worked with
recording artists
Prince,
Gloria Estefan, Peter
Frampton, and Steve Winwood, and as dance
supervisor for stage legend Liza Minnelli on her
Broadway Tour of Minnelli On Minnelli. As
a concert dancer Stephen performed with Gus
Giordano’s
Jazz Dance Chicago and as a
demi-soloist with the
Milwaukee Ballet. And he
can always be seen tap dancing on top a tin roof
shed in PBS Great Performance Presents: Crazy
For You!
In addition to
performing, Stephen is a proud member of the
Society of Stage Directors and Choreographer. He
has been resident choreographer and guest
Director for Tri-Arts Theater in upstate New
York for a number of seasons, and directs and
choreographs professional musical theater around
the United States. Most recently Stephen was
re-created Jerome Robbins' West Side Story
for the Boston Conservatory of the Arts 50th
Anniversary production and was Assistant
Choreographer for the New York Philharmonic
"PBS Presents" Candide! starring Patty
Lupone and Kristin Chenoweth live from Lincoln
Center. Other current choreographic and
directing credits are on Steve's "Directing
and Choreography" page.
Most
significantly, Stephen’s direct work with
choreographic theater legends such as Jerome
Robbins, Susan Stroman, Gillian Lyne, Wayne
Cillento, and Kathleen Marshall adds a wealth of
professional knowledge to his teaching and
performance workshops. Coupled with his work as
a professional
S.S.D.C. director and choreographer, he
brings invaluable insight into the grueling
audition process and the strenuous requirements
of being a professional performer.
